Posted by Isidoros Passas at 30 January 2006 in Innovation Measurement, Regional Innovation Strategies

According to the introduction of the report it is a concise summary of the presentations, discussions and main conclusions of the MLP workshop on regional innovation benchmarking, that took part in Brussels in 25th of November 2005.

As I was going through the report, appeared to be a very interesting gateway to different sources relating to regional benchmarking.

The active participation in the workshop of various regional stakeholders confirmed that benchmarking is one of the topics of keen interest to the regions. The workshop was attended by 54practitioners representing regional authorities, specialised regional agencies, experts as well as representatives of international institutions such as the European Commission, EUROSTAT, Committee of the Regions and the OECD. The report is divided in two parts.

  • The first part presents main points from the presentations.
  • The second part covers main points from the discussions.

The latter contains (a) the definition and main reasons for undertaking regional innovation benchmarking exercise, (b) opinions and suggestions on the scope and focus of benchmarking as well as (c) some recommendations regarding practical approach to implementation of the exercise.
