OneCommunity “A Network of Innovation and Growth”

OneCommunityOneCommunity is a nonprofit organization that serves Northeast Ohio by connecting public and nonprofit institutions to the next-generation fiber-optic network, enabling those institutions to offer enhanced, innovative solutions, and transforming region’s image and economic future by attracting outside investment and creating business and job opportunities.

In this case study, prepared under the E-Government Executive Education (3E) Project in John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University looks at how Cleveland, one of America’s most impoverished cities, has leveraged OneCleveland, a major “ultra-broadband” initiative to reposition itself as a hub of high-tech innovation. The OneCleveland approach—now called OneCommunity to reflect its growth to the region extending far beyond the bounds of the city itself—is an attempt to lead not with the city at the helm, but rather as a collaboration of governments, non-profits, and private sector firms willing to become sources of “social venture capital” for the region.
