Short profile

The Region of Lorraine was a pioneer European region in leading a RTP programme (Regional technology plan). One of the significant result was the elaboration of the Regional charter of Innovation and technology transfer. It was taken into account for the elaboration of the Regional plan titled: "Projet Lorrain" which deals with the period of time 2000 - 2006. This Plan determines three strategic objectives:

  • Strengthening the regional dynamics through a reinforced competitiveness of the Lorrain cross-roads;
  • Contribution to the social and territorial cohesion by the regional solidarity;
  • Optimisation of the performances of the regional economy fabric by stimulating creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The main part of the regional policy in Development of innovation in the SMEs depends on the last objective. This is a particularly innovative orientation because it implies directly the regional bodies and their partners in the process of improving the decision modes of the entrepreneurs. This objective called "Entrepreneurship in Lorraine" will facilitate initiatives thanks to better information, a more efficient access to innovation, encouragement for the research and mobilisation of new technologies, development of resort to consultants.

The purpose of the proposed orientation is to develop the creative capability of the enterprises through a larger approach of the results of the research-innovation, to increase the reactivity by a better environment.

It concerns 5 frameworks:

  • stimulation of the creation and transfer of enterprises
  • enhancement of the regional economic branches;
  • optimisation of the decisional environment of the enterprises and access to innovation;
  • increase of competitiveness and of performance of the economic fabric;
  • investment in the ICTs.

The VERITE project concerns the 1st, the 3rd, the 4th and the 5th frameworks. It will implicate particularly the numerous schools of engineering and more specially one out of them: the National school of Industrial systems engineering which develops initial and long life training courses on IMTs.

Lorraine starts an ambitious programme on the dissemination of Economic intelligence in small businesses where between 1.5 to 2 M€ per annum will be spent for the next 6 years.

The partner is the regional authority from the Region of Lorraine.
