Lithuanian Business Employers' Confederation (LEC, www.ldkonfederacija.lt) is an independent non-profit organisation that operates in the whole territory of Lithuania. LEC is the result of a merger in April 1999, between, the National Confederation of Businessmen and the Lithuanian Entrepreneurs' Employers Confederation. At present LEC is the biggest organisation in Lithuania representing more than 1700 enterprises and 60 regional, sectoral associations. LEC has 56 branch offices covering the whole of Lithuania and strives to create favourable conditions for business development and promote the interests of SMEs. The main objectives of LEC are: to rally Lithuania's business people in order to express, represent and secure their legal interests; to initiate the development of the business self-government, to promote regulatory reforms; to collaborate with State authorities in creating more favourable conditions for business development; to participate in the reorganization of the tax and investment policy; to facilitate the establishment of new enterprises; to provide businessmen with a wide range expertise and assistance; to help the members establish new business relations and identify partners in foreign countries. In accomplishing its objectives, the LEC collaborates with Parliament and Government of the Republic of Lithuania, ministries, districts and local administrations. LEC also collaborates with other organisations of businessmen (Confederation of Lithuanian Industrialists, Chambers of Commerce) and other non-profit organisations. LEC is an associate member of UEAPME, European Association of craft, small and medium-sized enterprises and participates in PHARE Business Support Programme together with other business associations in European Union and Central and Eastern Europe. LEC has been involved in the implementation of a number of projects concerning business support services and infrastructure (under Business Support Programme 1&2, project "Fit for enlargement", etc.).
