Creative Clusters Network
“Creative Clusters in Low Density Urban Areas” is a thematic network under the URBACT II EU programme. Working assumption of the CC network is that creativity is a driving force for economic development in small and medium-sized urban centers; not in big cities only.
The objective of the network is to promote an exchange of experiences and best practices, and elaborate policy recommendations and action plans sustaining creative clusters in low density urban areas. Under the coordination of the Municipality of Óbidos (Portugal) the network gathers cities from Spain, Italy, UK, Romania and Hungary.
The Launching Conference of the CC network will take place in Óbidos (Portugal) in 22 January 2009. Simultaneously, a “Creative Mayors’ Summit” will take place with the participation of mayors from Portuguese cities and cities of the network to discuss “Small Urban Economies in the Globalisation: The Role of Creativity-based Models” and to sign a “Covenant for Creativity”. Both events are being organized within the European Year of Creativity and Innovation (2009) launched by the European Commission.
